Comfort and safety when working with the hedge trimmer
Depending on the model, we have developed different unique safety functions: The possibility of unintentionally cutting the connection cable is removed by our unique AL-KO Safety cable. Even before starting the hedge trimmer, you are protected by an AL-KO device by our special safety mechanism which prevents the accidental starting of the hedge trimmer. The handles are adjustable on some of our hedge trimmers and, combined with the sophisticated ergonomics of the device, make working easier than with other hedge trimmers available.
Tips & Advice
The right time for the to be hedge cut
Select the date for the hedge cutting carefully. You must also observe legal regulations as well as ideal conditions for the plants. Under the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981, it is an offence to intentionally damage, destroy or remove the nest of any wild bird whilst it is in use or being built. The main bird breeding season is recognised as being between 1st March and 31st July so it is recommended you check for any signs of breeding activity between this period. It is advised that hedges are cut on dry, mild days as the heat will dry out the newly cut shoots whereas if hedges are cut whilst wet, twigs are crushed rather than cut and the moisture increases the possibility of damage caused by frost.
The right tool for the hedge cutting
For exhaust-free, wireless and quiet hedge trimming, the AL-KO HT 36 Li cordless hedge trimmer is the right choice for you. The light, handy hedge trimmer from the AL-KO EnergyFlex family provides optimal cutting with its diamond-ground blades and thanks to ingenious ergonomics as well as the rubberised handle makes for comfortable working. Quiet, safe and also without exhaust and hedges, the AL-KO HT 600 Flexible Cut electric hedge trimmer can provide a neat and tidy cut. The trimmers provide comfort and safety in any position with their adjustable, ergonomic handle and the unique safety cable, which effectively prevents the cable from being severed.
The right clothes to wear for cutting the hedges
Some species of hedges are toxic and can cause allergic reactions in skin contact. Also thorns or pointed branches can cause cuts to your skin. For this reason, it is recommended that appropriate clothing is worn when hedge cutting. Wearing solid footwear, long-sleeved clothes and protective goggles and gloves is advised.
The right shape for the hedge cut
Shaped, dense hedges are an attractive sight, but requires some skill and tactics to achieve. A tensioned line helps you to maintain an even height, direction and shape. First, cut off a little and refine if necessary. Hedges are basically trapezoid-shaped, ie wider at the bottom than at the top. This gives the lower branches enough light preventing the lower branches from dying off due to lack of light.
