The AL-KO environmental protection work group
Committed AL-KO employees take charge of everyday environmental protection
Between nine and eleven employees working in the most varied of work sectors -- from the welding shop, to the sales and quality departments -- have been active on an honorary basis in the AL-KO environmental protection work group since October 1990. The AL-KO safety engineer and the AL-KO waste representative are also represented in this work group. The members of the work group usually meet monthly in their free time, under the chairmanship of a moderator, to detect weak points in in-house environmental protection. They jointly elaborate possible solutions, submit these suggestions for approval and finally implement these solutions together with the colleagues concerned.
The work of the environmental protection work group meets with a lot of employee approval and interest: many employees submit suggestions on their own initiative or participate actively in implementing ideas. This feedback acts time and again as an incentive for the members of the environmental protection work group. Our employee journal "AL-KO Report" reports regularly on the successful work of this "green committee", and there is often something on the notice board about it.
Some examples of environmentally-friendly improvements realised at the suggestion of the environmental protection work group:
- regular collection of recyclables on company premises;
- use of environmentally-compatible office materials;
- introduction of recycling paper for in-house use;
- composting of biological waste collected at the plants;
- setting up compression and scrap containers;
- preparation of a plan showing where disposal points are located;
- use of re-usable tableware in the canteen and
use of china instead of plastic cups at coffee machines;
- regular publishing of environmental protection tips in the employee journal "AL-KO Report"."
