Neumarkt Cultural Centre, Cologne

Neumarkt Cultural Centre, Cologne

Under the leadership of the architectural firm Schneider + Sendelbach, a new building was constructed on the Neumarkt, in the centre of Cologne, combining museum, art and education in one Cultural Centre. The Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum, the Schnütgen Museum, the Junior Museum, the adult education centre and the Cologne Museum Service Centre represent a list of demanding users. The planning tasks had to be optimised both from an engineering point of view and with regard to the architectural requirements. Special ceiling structures realise column-free spaces up to a clear overall size of 16 x 87 metres. The concrete core activation, in conjunction with mechanical ventilation, is the reason for the energy-efficient air conditioning.
